Downtown Brown’s Detroit Farewell Show

Exploding from the suburbs of Detroit rock city in 2001, and venturing to the absolute bottom of the rabbit hole by 2015Downtown Brown has carved a unique saga over their 14-year existence. DTB plays a mutant style that splices together punk, funk, metal, experimental rock, and hip-hop, combined with politically incorrect, honest, and sometimes outrageous lyrics.

Neil, the lead singer and guitarist of the band mentions in an interview with Libby Freeman of Punk Globe that “Funk is definitely in the roots of all the music we make. That 4/4 groove and heavy bottom bass is prevalent in most of what we do. The rest of what we do is all a direct result of our influences. It just makes sense.
Take a fat kid who grew up listening to GUNS N ROSES in grade school, discovered BAD RELIGION and METALLICA in middle school, and in high school became obsessed with PRINCE and P FUNK. It’s pretty easy to see where our sound comes from. Once you ad the latter influences of MIKE PATTON and FRANK ZAPPA it makes complete sense.”

The band is relocating their sound to the entertainment capital of the world aka Los Angeles, California.  Their latest Midwest performance was to a sold out crowd in Detroit, MI at The Loving Touch, one of the wildest shows I have ever seen!

Fans are able to view the full set on YouTube and will soon be able to own a DVD with their farewell set and another live video from their previous tour out in LA.  Visit their website (http://dtbmusic.com) for more information about upcoming tours and to access a plethora of albums recorded since 2001.  #sup

On the Go with Joe

I decided for my first post to share this video of the Joe Marcinek Band (JMB) performing a cover of Metropolis by Particle LIVE at Hookahville in Pataskala, OH on 9/4/2015.

In 2010, Particle appeared on stage at the Waterbowl in Muncie, Indiana for Springfest and absolutely blew my mind!  I was specifically drawn to the talent of their keyboardist Steve Molitz (Particle/Phil Lesh & Friends) who in his career has played over 1,000 shows as a touring musician since 2000 and has written music for the Ridley Scott film ‘Tell-Tale’ and the Universal video game ‘Scarface: The World Is Yours.’

Joe is also joined in this recording by Snarky Puppy’s Grammy Award winning percussionist Nate Werth who also co-leads a drum and percussion project, Ghost-Note, with world renown musician Robert “Sput” Searight.  Werth has worked with other respected artists such as Lalah Hathaway, David Crosby and Q-Tip.

Glostik Willy’s Jameson Bradford (Jay Moe) brings his hippy metal flavor to the stage with finger shredding, face melting licks you won’t hear anywhere else.  At a young age, Jay Moe began his musical career and hasn’t looked back.  He has hosted several music Festivals such as Stik Nite and May Daze 1 in muncie Muncie, Indiana, and Willy Fest which is now in it’s second year hosted by Randy and Lahey of Trailer Park Boys in College Corner, OH.  He has joined the stage with several jam legends such as Steve Sweney and Dave Katz (ekoostik hookah) and members of The Werks.

Last, but not least, Joe Marcinek (best known for his guitar work as a founding member of Fresh Hops) is the mastermind behind it all.  The band is an ever evolving mixture of original compositions and incredible musicians. Each show has a slightly different lineup and interpretation.  Joe has brought to the stage astounding musicians such as Joey Porter and Garret Sayers (The Motet), Kris Myers (Umphreys McGee) Allen Aucoin (Disco Biscuits), Jason Hann (The String Cheese Incident/EOTO), Tony Hall of Dumpstaphunk, Allie Kral (Cornmeal/Yonder Mountain String Band) and many more.
